“What’s New in Metal!” Tacoma Plant Tour and Presentation
On March 5th AEP Span held a fabrication facility tour and presentation at our AEP Span Plant in Tacoma, WA. This event entitled “What’s New in Metal!” was held in collaboration with the Construction Specification Institute (CSI) Mt. Rainier Chapter.
5 AEP Span representatives presented the details of how to fabricate custom trim and panels as well as examined what to include in specifications to ensure successful projects using metal. They looked at what’s new in the metal industry and the “new” Flex and Perception wall panel roll former (a folder to make 20’ custom flashing), as well as the overall plant process. They also conferred about panel clips and fastener options, designing for expansion and contraction of metal roof systems, AEP Span Underlayment HT, and paint system information.
Jeff Haddock, Technical Services Manager at AEP Span commented “This was a very well attended presentation by the Mt Rainier Chapter of the Construction Specification Institute. 25+ were in attendance and included Architects, Designers, State Code Official, Engineers, Facilities Managers and Design Students from the local Clover Park Technical College. This was an excellent opportunity to present in front of this group and get information about manufacturing, metal design, applications, and project specification considerations to industry influencers and decision-makers. I especially appreciated the Design Students that were in attendance as they are the future of this industry.”
Jerry Litwin, Programs Co-Chair & Chapter Past President of CSI, CCCA commented “The tour was fantastic! This was a very informative presentation with some very good discussions. The new roller machine was unbelievable on how quick it was. The inventory of metal rolls ready for fabrication was amazing. It was great to see how AEP Span provides metal panels quickly.”
After all the education and discussions, attendees got the chance to sit down and enjoy a dinner and presentation together. “We learned a lot about metal roofing and wall panels. Never know there were so many types of clips we could use. Learned how to manage metal expansion. Paint coatings was very helpful. I know now to stay 1500 feet away from saltwater. You had us mesmerized.”, said Jerry Litwin.
AEP Span is proud to partner with CSI Mt. Rainier to bring updates and educational offerings to the industry and look forward to future collaborations.
