Desert Junior High School

Edwards AFB, CA
Metal Products: Span-Lok™ hp
Metal Colors: Cool Zinc Gray
Contractor: AME Builders Inc

This new Desert Junior-Senior High School in Edwards Airforce Base, CA is the latest addition to the Muroc Joint Unified School District. The final phase of this 10-year project involves the construction of a shared performing arts center, new classroom wings, a new gymnasium, and site improvements throughout the campus. Predominantly shown across the exterior of the school is AEP Span’s Box Rib™™ metal siding panel. Additionally, AEP Span’s standing seam, 16” Select Seam® Narrow Batten panels were also used. Both panel types were used in a vertical application and in the same 18ga cool Zinc Gray color. The standard striated feature of Select Seam in addition to the heavier gauge was utilized to reduce the appearance of oil canning.

For the roof, 22ga 16” Span-Lok™ hp was selected. The 2” high rib of this standing seam panel paired well with the vertical application of the metal siding panels. As with the siding, the roofing system also features the same energy-efficient cool Zinc Gray color. The energy-efficient cool color will aid in helping to keep the school’s internal temperatures cooler during the hot southern California months. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on August 9, 2022, to open this amazing new facility that will go on to help support learning for generations to come.
